June 2010
Well the "Big Reveal" finally has taken place and the dust has settled. The Ingle family has moved into the house that is now a fabulous new home thanks to countless volunteers with their time and expertise going into this amazing project.
Please look at the list of Businesses with Big Hearts and patronize them if you can. It's also a handy resource list if you need service at your home.
The Ingles are happy and loving their new home. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone who made this idea become a reality!
Friday, January 8th
Professionals from Curran Drywall and Michael Thal Drywall saved the day. Their work is so professional, is interesting to watch, as they stayed the course into the night, as the sun went down when the house was at its coldest!! We are so appreciative to them.
Spray foam insulation is an amazing process to watch! It's the latest & greatest when it comes to insulation. Vince Bick, and our technicians (who look more like NASA astronauts) are specially trained to administer the foam. It's sprayed into the home to insulate walls, ceilings and everywhere else one would expect to have insulation. As a result, it helps to keep the heat inside during the winter and cool air inside during the summer. The material expands 120 times, and gets into every nook and cranny. It's designed to cut down tremendously on energy bills.
It's cold outside, and it's even colder inside, but that doesn't stop the countless volunteers from working on the Ingles' house. Drywall hanging is almost complete, and then the finishing works starts. Our plumbing inspection is any day now. The outside temperature has put a temporary hold on the exterior siding and brick work. Baker Concrete is waiting to install the front porch, front walk, driveway, and sidewalk leading to the rear of the house as soon as the ground thaws. We can't wait for that! This week, we might see some 30 degree temps. Should we get out the sunscreen?!! Baker is donating the entire job! So many companies have donated so much. Please check out the names of our many subcontractors under the "Businesses with BIG Hearts" page, and give them your business.
Today, the most beautiful cubbies in the world were installed. They were designed and built by hand, by Tom Lammert. Tom has been doing Habitat for Humanity work for years both here in Ohio, and in Florida as well. Plain and simple, Tom has a passion for giving back. He carefully designed these cubbies and created shelving customized for each child's individual height. Each cubby will provide a "home" for a coat, back pack, and even a special nook for shoes. Tom spent countless hours over the holidays working on these cubbies, and his craftsmanship is quite incredible.
How lucky are we to have such a crew? They just keep on giving back, and really, that's what's making this dream home come to life. We are so blessed to be rubbing elbows with countless people who always "try to do better and matter more".

Mechanicals are well underway.......electrical (thanks to Bob Dickhaus of "Advanced Electric", plumbing (thanks to AJ Ridings), and HVAC (thanks to Bruce Krahl of "Precision - Air Heating & AC" & Steve Locke of "Locke's Heating & Cooling")..... volunteers are working tirelessly to get us over the hump....Heat is almost here guys!!...Outside, the house will finally start to get all dressed up!
Thanks to Drew Hauer of "Jim Hauer Masonry", and Brian Wear of "Local 18 OH/KY", and the brick (DIVISION 4's donation) is starting to go up!
It's charming and has some real character.....brick is a beautiful thing & and our skilled masons show us the real art of laying bricks, and yes, it's an art!
Also, thanks to Jim Gehm of "James Hardie Siding", and Craig Dill of "Lowe's", the brick is soon to get a good partner, with siding that looks like wood. This attractive and sturdy siding lasts a lifetime and is maintenance free. Pretty important for this great big family! Can't wait.......
Diff is lining up her crew for power hours of insulation work. As Diff says it best, "Let's get er done". The plan is to seal up (several times over) every nook and cranny! No cold air getting in this humble abode......Diff's extreme knowledge of "going green" is something we're looking forward to seeing in action!
This Thankgiving is truly special. Thank you to ALL the volunteers and everyone who continues to make this project a reality.
